Introducing Hope Town: The Sugaree Band’s New Album and Story
A musical journey from Chesapeake Bay to the Bahamas — and beyond

Welcome to The Sugaree Band blog! This is our first entry. We are very excited to introduce our brand-new cd/album, Hope Town. It was a lot of fun, but also a lot of work. Credit to Darlene, my wonderful wife, for all her effort in securing the copyrights and doing the dirty work. Also, we would like to thank Joe and Don, of Glyph design, for the beautiful web site.
Dave Nachodsky, Stages Music Arts in Cockeysville MD, did an amazing job in the studio and made it an enjoyable experience. He’s a true professional. Thanks Dave!
The title track, Hope Town, is based upon our fantastic eight-month journey on our sailing vessel, Sugaree, from Havre de Grace MD to the Bahamas, specifically Hope Town on the island of Elbow Cay. A magical place at the far eastern edge of the islands where life is slow and deliberate. We played many concerts there and were welcomed with so much love it was truly inspiring. We hope the feeling of our trip as well as the island comes through.
Another track, Over Dubai, was inspired by a conversation with our good friends Dave Demme and his lovely daughter Lauren who are both long time sky divers. Lauren was teaching the crown prince of Dubai to sky dive in Dubai and the stories of her adventures with her Dad were mesmerizing to say the least. Darlene captured the spirit of these two incredible adventurers.
There is a mix of original as well as cover tunes that we chose for the rest of the project. We hope you enjoy our music. The cd/album is available through our web site as well as on all music apps, such as Spotify and Apple Music. Also available on You Tube. We are blessed to be able to do what we love and share it with you. Looking forward to more blogging in the near future. Stay tuned!
Peace,
Dave and Dar
